Memo warns of drug-laced tattoos
Some area parents have received information regarding the danger of a tattoo known as "Blue Star."
Kellie Landon, lead teacher of Head Start in Coralville, said she had received a memo, written by the Human Resources Department in Waterloo, warning parents of a temporary rub-on tattoo soaked in LSD.
"I thought it was something parents of school age children would want to know," she said.
The memo said that this tattoo, wrapped in foil, and resembling a blue star, is about the size of a pencil eraser. Other types of these tattoos can be found in the shapes of Superman, Mickey Mouse, clowns, Disney characters, Bart Simpson and butterflies.
This form of acid is a new way to appeal to children, the memo warned. The drugs are know to react quickly and some could be laced with strychnine.
Although Landon said she had not heard of any cases in Iowa City or Coralville, because there is a problem in Waterloo, it may not be long before the tattoos show up in this area.
