bottom.
- Familiarize yourself with the Sputnik
directory structure and the contents of the Zone, so you can
determine where your page will be placed and can more easily
cross-reference other documents.
- Cross-reference your article thoroughly, both to pages within and
outside of the Zone.
- Include, if applicable, a "See also:" collection of further links.
- Familiarize yourself with the use of our
icons. Every link to a page at another
site should be prefixed with the appropriate icon, for instance.
- No Textfiles! -- HTML only.
- Our pages are read by people in many countries, so although an English
language bias is present, a country-bias is not. When listing prices,
indicate the currency. When discussing legal matters, civil rights,
government procedures, etc. be sure to identify which country's laws
you are talking about!
- On a related note, for the poor Americans who haven't learned metric
yet, and for the rest of the world that has given up on pounds, gallons
and feet, please either provide measurements in both metric and archaic
values, or provide a link in your page to the
Common Equivalent Weights and Measures
table at http://www.cchem.berkeley.edu/ChemResources/Weights-n-Measures/weights-n-measures.html
- Be careful about commercial stuff -- it's okay to point people to
commercial resources that might interest them, but avoid ads and
"infomercials" -- we're not interested in that sort of thing.
- Libelous material, or anything else that is more likely than not to
grease Gene & Dean Sputnik's chute to the Big House is strongly
discouraged.
- Use whatever backgrounds you'd like -- but try to make them readable
even for people with lousy monitors and video cards. We have some
sample backgrounds you can
use.
- Ditto with icons, bars, buttons, &c. Here are some
bars and
other stuff we've already put in
our directories.
- Don't be bashful about giving yourself credit for putting in the
hard work of a Sputnik HTMLizer.
