This police information report, found in urban legend researcher Jan Harold Brunvand's book "The Choking Doberman and Other 'New' Urban Legends," is believed by many to have launched the urban legend.
It describes confiscated sheets of blotter acid, where each of the 100 doses on the sheet is marked with a picture of Mickey Mouse in his "Sorcerer's Apprentice" garb.
The notice specifically warns that "children may be susceptible to this type of cartoon stamp believing it a tattoo transfer" and differentiates these logo-marked blotter acid sheets from unmarked blotter acid, giving the mistaken impression that "these stamps" are something other than blotter acid.
The red box and foil, and the allegation that "'Superman' stamps" are also circulating, are details that can be found in warning flyers to this day.
