Opening my eyes in the electric ocean

A truly magical combo

Substances: GHB, Ketamine, LSD, 5-MeO-DMT

The following events actually happened and are as true as I am capable of verbalizing. Last night I was totally taken by surprise and led down a swirling, exploding psychedelic universe previously unbeknownst to me. It was what I consider to be the most intense entheogenic experience of my psychonautic career- ranking above 5 gram mushrooms trips, breakthrough salvia encounters, and smoked 5-MeO-DMT in sheer weirdness and profoundness.

I had the night totally planned out. I was going to take about 3 hits of acid, combine it with some ketamine at the peak, and then hop in the bathtub for some serious inner exploration. I am quite familiar with the effects of large doses of acid, and have used k by itself intranasally and orally previously. I had no idea that the effects produced by combining the two would be so profoundly different from the substances seperately.

At about 8:30 PM I took 3 hits of acid and 3 grams of ghb, and sat around chatting on irc and listening to mp3s waiting for the effects to reach their peak. A couple hours passed, and rather than do the ketamine at that point I opted to eat another 3 hits of acid. Some time passed, and after an hour or so I decided that I had reached sufficient levels to bring K into the equation. At about 11:00 I prepared and insufflated about 85mg. My SO stepped into the shower, and I laid down on the floor to zone out for a while.

That's when something clicked. The familiar LSD space I was immersed in all of a sudden exploded into a crazy swirling vortex. The aural hallucinations were extemely pronouced- I was fully saturated into a whirlpool of strange noises, sights, sounds, and sensations. This was not what I had found k to be like previously at all, and was certainly more than what I knew LSD to be capable of. I was truly in another universe. The swirling noises in my head provided the soundtrack while I was led down a twisting and ever-changing corridor of sheer weirdness. Throughout this time I was totally calm and completely lucid- while at the same time pretty much out of my body. As I write this now, I am totally reminded of what I read in DM Turner's Essential Psychedelic Guide regarding the ketamine state, something about not remembering ever having a body of having been human at all. All I existed as was this lucid, disembodied consciousness floating and morphing in an electric ocean.

Something caused me to break from the trance state- i think it may have been some weird noises the building i live in was making. I snapped back into my body and sat up- totally blown away by what I had just experienced. I got up and went to go greet my SO, who I heard had gotten out of the shower. I gave her a big hug- by the look in her eyes I could tell she knew I had totally just been somewhere else. I still had one foot in that place, so to speak. I glanced over at our bathtub and hopped in.

Our bathtub is quite deep- excellent for psychonautic purposes, but at the same time quite dangerous. Visions of a dead me laying underwater wrinkled like a raisin as water poured over the bathtub walls entered my mind, so I called my SO in to sit for me. This was probably an excellent idea- drowning is quite possibly the #1 hazard related to this type of exploration. I made myself as comfortable as possible in the bathtub- the water surrounding me was a lovely warm embrace that complimented this state very nicely. I was able to slip back into the space I was in earlier with ease, and laid there- quite simply electrified- for about half an hour or so. I gradually felt the effects of the ketamine subside and I attempted to convey what I had just experienced to my wife.

I got out of the shower and rode out the remaining hours of the acid trip- pretty run of the mill for acid so I won't go into much detail. At about 7 hours into the experience, I decided to smoke a small amount of 5-MeO-DMT (~3-5mg). This complimented the effects of the acid nicely, and left me in a deep contemplative state for a while. The effects of the MeO gradually trailed off, and still feeling the effects of the acid somewhat I decided to give the ketamine another go. I did about 3/4 of what I had done previously, but failed to achieve the same breakthrough state I had reached earlier.

I sat around acid tripping and listening to mp3s for a while. Finally, acknowledging my body's poor cries for sleep, I took about 6 grams of GHB in an attempt to sedate myself. I felt very little from it (I usually need to take more than 2x my normal dose of GHB while I'm on acid to feel the same effect as I would otherwise), so I took another dose of roughly the same size about half an hour later. Within an hour I was fast asleep. Trip effectively over.

I now see that ketamine by itself, at least administered intranasally, is mildly amusing in much the same way that nitrous by itself is mildly amusing. It is not until you are already fully immersed in the psychedelic state that this substance really makes it magic known. The spirit it invokes is a powerful one- allowing you access to much the same realms of information that a high dose mushroom journey does, but leaving you totally clear, calm, and in control throughout (Perhaps some people are able to navigate well in high-dose mushroomspace with a clear head- personally, I find it quite difficult). There was a definite sense that I was not alone throughout the ride- there was an "other" i felt probing me and on some level, communicating with me. There was also a great deal of the experience that I was not able to bring back. I look forward to exploring this space in the future, and combining k with other compounds similar in effect to acid. I doubt that I will use ketamine by itself much in the future. It's still kind of a fun high by itself- but it can't compare at all the beauty and profoundness of the fully psychelicized k state. I recommend this combo to any serious, experienced psychonaut- but if you plan to use the bathtub for exploration be sure to have a sitter present.

Wishing you all safe, lucid, and fruitful journeys! Anonymous
