AMT MemoriesAdvice from the Experienced Substances: AMT To those who tried vaporizing AMT...I'll tell you what your problem is with this substance. You need to do at least 30 mg. in a single ORAL dose (don't smoke or snort this!!!) for a true psychedelic effect (read the typtamine faq on IT-290). Way back in 1979 I encountered this substance and did the dose described above. In 30 minutes I began to feel the effects coming on. I put on the Jerry Garcia/Jerry Garcia (do you know which one this is?) album on and by the end of the first side (very psychadelic!) I was overwhelmed with the intensity of the trip. It was like having every trip I had done before (about 50) "rolled up into one". A friend who wasn't doing any AMT had to take over operation of the stereo at that point. I remember the second side of the album (less psychadelic),then he played the Grateful Dead/Live Dead sides 1-4 in order. By this time I was totally lost in patterns, colors, sounds, etc. Mere thoughts became reality (from my perception) as soon as they existed in my mind. A freak-out could have occurred at this point had I not had considerable mushroom and LSD experience. The book "The Psychadelic Experience" by Timothy Leary was indespensible although, my friend had to read it out to me. Later my friends and I wouldn't hold a trip without it, due to it's effectiveness in guiding one through the "Psychadelic Flow". This intensity went on for 6(!) hours and then mellowed out for another 12 hours. About one month later I tried a 60 mg. dose and I would say that except for DMT (I obtained that a few months before) I have never had any psychedelic even approach the intensity of this one. I would not recommened this substance for someone unwilling to deal with the intensity and duration (total->18 hours) of this effect. For someone who can, I think you will find this to be one of the most powerfull psychedelics around. LSD, even at 5000 ug. (5 mg. I hve actually done this!), doesn't even come close. I did a few more AMT trips with friends after that and they had the same opinion. By that time I was able to deal with it very well. Although one freak-out did occur resulting in this person giving up all drugs (including pot) and turning to the local church for guidance in life (we didn't have the "book" that night, big mistake!!!). In conclusion, for AMT, I recommend: 1) At least 30 mg. ORALLY, 2) Good set(your mind) and setting(your surroundings), 3) Good music (Grateful Dead, Moody Blues(older tunes), etc.), 4) and the book mentioned above. Don't plan on doing anything else (Working, Driving, etc.) and keep any distractions (people coming over, for instance) to a minimum. Read "the book" or have it read to you. After a while you won't need this as you will gain experience with dealing with the trip and remember the teachings contained in it. Any doses less than 30 mg. produce a non-psychedelic and seemingly "speedy" feeling. It would be hard to smoke 30 mg. (and probably hard on your lungs) and snorting this would burn the nasal passages intensely so, stick with oral use. [The helpful book being spoken about in this report is probably "The Psychedelic Experience", by Leary, Metzger & Alpert. It is a trip manual based on theTibetan Book Of The Dead (Bardo Thödol).
