AzathothStrongly Disorienting Substances: 5-MeO-DMT, Peganum harmala This is about a combination of 5-meo-DMT and harmaline. I named this combination Azathoth after the Idiot God of the H. P. Lovecraft mythos (I have to have something fun to read - Plato can bore you to tears at times). This report is true, but let me tell you ahead of time - it conflicts with reports of the duration of DMT and related tryptamines in combination with harmaline. I posted an account of my experience this summer to Usenet and got a letter from Alexander Shulgin - so you may see this in TIHKAL. The afternoon started with getting a package - complete with an ominous version of a "Have a Nice Day" face with it's tongue sticking out. I smoked about 3-4 mg and was blown apart but dissapointed that I had no visual hallucinations. I went to work and returned that evening and ingested about 5-6 grams of ground Syrian Rue. This was about 8:30. At 9:45, I put what seemed to be 9 mg of 5-meo-DMT on some basil leaves. I took it all in and... ...I am not aware of where I am. I think at the time that I am on my bed. There is a light above my head and a sound - WHOOM WHOOM WHOOM that gets faster and faster - tighter and tighter - culminating in "THIS IS THE HERE AND NOW - AWAKEN, YOU ARE IN PARADISE!!!!. Thus spoke the spirit of it all, but not literally - it is what it felt like. It is like a rapture of the plant kingdom - it is Heaven; it is also horrible beyond words. It is a place that the worst nightmares are spun from. It is the gate of the place where nothing will ever occur again. It is a Lake of Fire. At the same time it is wonderful beyond words, beyond thought - but there really is no thought on this plane; there is rudimentary thought that resembles a cross between sleeping and waking. Imagine if you will being conscious while in delta sleep. That is the essence of Azathoth, but only on the physical level... ...I became conscious that I was blind (Azathoth was a blind god), but knew that I had taken a drug and that blindness was a reported part of it and that it would pass. I moved my fingers at first; I opened my eyes, it was near 11:30 (!)... ...I was not on the bed, I was on the floor. My wall phone was knocked to the ground from where my chair knocked it off of the wall. My screen saver on my computer was going. I was on my back, my head was under my desk; to my horror, I was covered in vomit. I did not sleep for the rest of the night and the trip did not let up until about 3:00 a.m. the following night after semi convulsing myself to sleep. In retrospective, I think that glycine would have helped. -->In summary: I am really wanting to try Amanita muscaria after this, but it took months for this to pass before I felt this way. I think that this was extremely dangerous, nearly fatal. Would I recommend this? Of course not, but could I repeat it - I might. If someone is sitting in a chair and a friend is holding the pipe and it is in the morning THEN it is something that is between Datura and Amanita muscaria as far as should is concerned. The reason that I am thinking of Amanita muscaria is because it too is somewhat poisonous - as this combination obviously is. This was by far the strangest experience of my life. --> MOST IMPORTANTLY: Keep in mind that I may well be describing a near-death experience that overlaps with the tryptamine high. Then again, ayahuasca is reported to be about like this physically. It is for this reason that I post this at all. This could be anecdotal of a pseudo-ayahuasca experience. The moral - be careful with the dosage level of 5-meo-DMT.
