GBLg-butyrolactone, C4H6O2 (mol. wt. 86.09)  Chemical and metabolic precursor to GHB Lactone (inter-molecular ester) of g-hydroxybutyric acid. Colorless oily liquid at room temperature. Can be reacted with suitable bases to form GHB, in the following proportions per 120 mL lactone:
- 63 g NaOH
- 91 g KOH
- 132 g NaHCO3
