Soma

Sacred drug of the ancient hindus.

Many identities have been proposed for soma over the years. R. Gordon Wasson recognized it to be an entheogen, and provided solid evidence for his own candidate, the A. muscaria mushroom, although the identity can never be known for certain.

Soma is also the brand name of a prescription muscle-relaxant, and the drug in Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World"

  • Amanita muscaria (Fly agaric)
This highly visible, coniferous-mychorhyzial mushroom is probably humanity's oldest entheogen. It has been identified as the "Soma" of the ancient Rig Veda.
