If one were to soak blue lotus material in wine, is there any particular wine that should be used?  Also, how long should the material soak and in what temperature?  Days? Weeks?

Between the tea and smoking, the tea gave me a more noticeable buzz, but I couldn't patch up the tea bag so there were were chunks of material in the drink.  Is there a way to avoid this?

I prefer to just eat 3 grams of petals whole, and then get on with my drinking or whatever a half hour later or so. The petals don't taste bad really, just like youd expect dried flower petals to taste. It's not good, but not bad.

I like smoking it a lot too.

do you have  Nymphaea or Nelumbo?

You can use any kind of liquor really - SWIM likes using Canadian 40% vodka, or any higher alcohol wine (13-15% alc/vol). Let it soak at room temperature about a week (longer if you want but not necessary) - you'll see the colour come out of the lotus petals entirely, which become slimy/translucent and can be strained out after a week.

Cool, I will definetly try soaking it in wine, but about how many grams should I use for one bottle?  I have nelumbo, by the way.

I was also unaware that dry leaves could be eaten for effects.

1/4 ounce in a bottle of wine might be a good starting place. Split bottle between 2-4 people.

Erowid put up a rather interesting report on using lotus to treat PTSD and also as an aphrodisiac. Unlike most reports lotus was mostly used on it's own, and the way she contrasts lotus with marijuana I found interesting.

Sooo, the most psychoactive kind of lotus is precisely the kind held sacred throughout Asia? Well, thats.... fascinating  grin

Wiki does note its use as food; and you say it can be active this way as well?

It seems Jimmy got a hold of some lotus.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

More for the Lotus Eater Chronicles

One fine day Jimmy found a package that appeared before him. It may have been addressed to him, so he opened it up. Within it he found a few samples of various herbs. The samples included; Cape Blue Water Lily(Nymphaea capensis), Blue Lotus(N, caerulea), White Lotus(N. alba), and a few other herbs, too. However, the story this time deals with the three lotus species.

In the past he had tasted of the blue lotus. However, the other two, the Cape lily and the white lotus, are new to him, Thus, he decided upon trying those. The first one he picked to test was the White Lotus. A tea was prepared for bio-analysis. The dried white floral material was placed, no packed, into a metal tea ball.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

White Lotus Tea

The tea ball was put into a cup of hot water. It was allowed to brew for more than a half hour.
It was an amber colored brew. It did not taste that bitter at all. It did, however, numb the tongue just a bit. He had had that same thing from the blue lotus teas before, as well. Soon thereafter a slightly glazed over feeling did set in. At that point, some bruises that he had sustained slipping and falling upon a wet kitchen floor earlier that day became less noticeable. The aches from them that is. He had the bruises upon his left elbow and his right knee.

A little while later, after about 20 minutes,  some drowsiness set in. The glazed over drowsiness reminded him of blue lotus tea, but it did not seem quite as strong. However, it was still similar. After about an hour and a half the effects from the tea seemed to fade off, and he found himself back to baseline.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

White Lotus Incense

One morning Jimmy found the bag of white lotus flowers before him, once again. This time the floral material were packed into the bowl of his scepter. He inhaled deep five times. A buzz came over him soon thereafter. It was similar to a mild MJ like feel at first, but that soon shifted to an opiate like mild felling. That sensation lasted about two hours. After that a drowsiness set in, and he started to fall asleep.

The smoke was sweet and mild. He wondered what it would be like to combine the white flowers with other herbs. However, such would be fodder for other stories to tell some other time.

Thanks for the notes DrY
Sounds like Jimmy agrees that the blue nymph is a little stonger than the white nymph. Its good to have someone to compare notes with  smiley

Has anyone tried Nelumbo with Kava Kava? I saw a site that offers a Kava Kava drink with Blue Lotus added.

Yes - the kava/lotus combo made me very sleepy, and a bit "intoxicated" as if mildy drunk.

Yes, they, kava and BL, synergize well together.  wink

Here is a dream about the Blue Cape Water Lily. Others may follow.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cape Lily Tea

One day a tea bag of the Blue Cape Water Lily(Nymphaea capensis) came before Jimmy. A cup of hot water was also ready to receive it, as well. After letting the bag of the Lily herb steep in the cup of hot water, he did sip of the brew. It was a floral tasting tea, and toward the end of the cup it did numb his tongue a bit, as well.

He did recall there was a mild sedation to it. It also seemed to make him aroused, too. However, he was too tired to put the energized aspect to good use. He soon, thereafter, fell asleep. He had dreams about a lumberjack, and a pond with lily flowers near a forest. However, the dream was just a dream, and it was not a lucid one.

BTW, Thus far, the Cape Lily seems about as strong as the White Lotus.

Cape Lily Tea and Incense

One morning a scepter bowl full, ~0.25g of Cape lily, of the Cape Lily, and a tea bag of it too, came before jimmy. He prepared the tea bag, ~3g of Cape Lily, with some hot water and a splash of lemon. While the tea did steep, he torched the bowl. He took the incense of this lily in three drags of the scepter.

The incense begot a mellowness. It had an intensity greater to that of the White Lotus, but it did not seem quite as strong as the Blue Lotus herb did. The initial feeling was one of a mild MJ type, but that faded into an opiate like feeling after a bit. kind of like a small dose of codeine or hydrocodone. Of course, the other Lily/Lotus did the same for him, as well.

Upon sipping of the cape Lily tea, a soothing feeling did come over him. The tea did, also, numb his tongue a bit as did the White Lotus and Blue Lotus did too. A calm did continue over him. The numbness of the tongue did remind him of kava root to some extent. After that thought, however, drowsiness did set in upon him. Thereafter, he soon fell asleep. He slept hard, and deep, and did not recall his dreams from the nap.

The Cat, the Lion and the Blue Lotus

One night a tea bag with one tablespoon full each of Klip Dagga, Catnip herb and Blue lotus herb did come before him. He put the bag of the herb mix into a cup of hot water with a dash of lemon juice. The cup of tea then did steep for 15 minutes.  After he sipped the tea, a relaxing feeling did start to come to him. It only took about 10 minutes for that to come over him. The feeling was a sedative type effect, but there were also some minor visuals disturbances in the darkness. These were kind of a minor visual patterning. This made him think that this mixture is of interest, and there may be some incense stories along this line to follow.

BTW, this has begotten a line of research toward the Mint Dreams and Green Fae Scenes blogs/threads. There was some sort of interesting synergy here.

On the kava/lotus thing...

Last night someone took 600 milligrams kavalactone powder extract orally, followed by 1/2 oz of the Absinthe caerulea (absinthe laced with blue lotus petals and stamens) and a pipeful of Cannabis. As usual the kava caused weird tasting burps, but a very pleasant and lucid feeling intoxication resulted from the mixture. It was similar to being reasonably drunk but without the dizzyness and sickened feeling, and motor coordination was still okay. Was able to read a book without loosing concentration too, which would be hard when drunk. The state flowed easily into sleep after an hour or two which was the intention of the experience. Slight fuzziness and a desire to stay in bed that had to be fought off the next morning.

... oh yeah this person also smoked a bowl of kratom after the marijuana. Almost forgot about that.
So I guess it's more of a kava, lotus, absinthe, kratom and pot mixture. No wonder it felt so nice  wink

Nymphaea caerulea + Amanita muscaria + Cannabis sativa

A bowl was packed with a base of blue lotus, then a pea-sized ball of Amanita muscaria resin (~25X extract), then topped off with some decent ganja. Each toke brought on a strong rush of sensation. Exhileration and energy. A feeling of power. At the same time becoming relaxed and dreamy feeling, deeply stoned. This combination is much stronger than just pot + lotus. Slight uncoordinated feeling when moving but there is no "mindtrip" or confusion like with stronger psychedelics.

This feels similar to the first 30-45 minutes of a mushroom trip, when one is just starting to come up and the waves of tingly energy rush through you. It is almost psychedelic, perched on the edge of being mind expanding.

After perhaps six or seven inhalations from the bong, the weed and lotus were burnt and only nasty tasting mushroom resin remained. But a toke of this produced a watery effect all around, like the environment had liquified or turned into jiggling jello. This feeling/visual lasted very briefly - only a second or two.

A second bowl of the mixture was prepared in the same manner. The feeling of energy and power became very strong with smoking this bowl. A very natural feeling substance. Gentle tingles run up the spine and into the crown and third eye chakras. The smoke of the mushrooms causes some salivation which makes for a very smooth smoking experience, even if the taste is not the best. Some visual effects are noticeable, but slight. It is like the normal mild visuals from the marijuana have been amplified significantly.

After a while the energy was fading and a more dissociated sensation set in. There was a strong desire to sit with my eyes shut feeling as if I was falling backwards in space. This peculiar sensation is not really comparable to any other drug one has taken, although it has some surface similarities with a low dose of DXM or salvia.

This is a very enjoyable combination.

Nelumbo nucifera + 190 Proof Everclear

After 24 hrs. of settling, the liquid is clear and golden in color.

Vigorously shaken, the liquid becomes cloudy.

Actually, there are no flower petals. I used 3 Tbsp of stamens and 9 Tbsp of alcohol. Today is the week mark and I will be adding distilled water. Then, I'll pour it up in little brown tincture bottles.  smiley
