I just assumed the increase in effects was due to MAO inhibition, but thanks to U's information learned this may not be the case. The psychoactive effects of harmala last around five hours, so that's the period of time where one feels the syrian rue or caapi potentiating the LSD. One has found that compared to the same dose of LSD or mushrooms without harmala alkaloids, the "peak" of the experience drags on with no loss of intensity until the harmala alks are wearing off. Without the rue or caapi, the peak passes and intensity drops faster.
What Moo said about "feeling at ease" is definately true. Most pronounced with rue, the trip has a feeling of calmness and comfort as if the mind's anxiety circuits have been switched off.
