After reading and familiarizing myself with the acid/base extraction method, I decided to purchase some chemicals to perform this extraction procedure, on ly to discover that prices for the chemicals required were astronomical. $17 for 1L of dichloromethane, $16 for 1L of HCL. Does anybody know of a source with prices better than these, and one that accepts money orders?

You can get HCl (Muratic acid) and dichloromethane (methylene chloride, in common paint strippers) at the local hardware store.

Dosadi -- You know of a brand of paint stripper (or other OTC product that contains just methylene chloride in a liquid form?? I've seen lots of "semi-paste" versions (requiring distillation) and liquids mixed with methanol, etc, but no straight OTC DCM...

You are correct. Sometimes if you hunt up some specialist hardware store or a big paint & tile store or even Home Depot if you are lucky you can find some relatively pure methylene chloride, but for the most part, you have to play the games with the semi-paste or adulterated shit.
Personally, I don't find a simple fractionating solvent distillation that difficult and it is worth it to me because methylene chloride is such a nice non-polar solvent. But you should be able to rig up a decent two-phase system with methanol and coleman lantern fuel. If distillation is a problem for you

You don't have to distill the Coleman's?? I was under the impression that it had some sort of colored anti-rusting agent in it and didn't evaporate cleanly. What do you think of OTC naptha? Would toluene work for this alkaloid? And MOST importantly (and explaining my handle): have you ever known of an extraction that got any reasonable yield of smokable N,N DMT??? (apart from net reports)

Coleman's Fuel supposedly doesn't evaporate clean, but I've heard of a brand called Ozark Trail that is available at Walmart and is reputed to evaporate very clean. In an acid base extraction though, a nonpolar solvent shouldn't have to be completely clean, just completely nonpolar, in fact I think it is optional in Yoda's method. I will try the hardware store first and see what they have.

Negate my last post, it's wrong, the nonpolar solvent should evaporate completely clean, I dunno what I was thinking.

You were probably thinking of using the non-polar to defat or otherwise remove non-product...

Hehe yep, just forgot you had to evaporate the nonpolar solvent to get the product in the end. Speaking of nonpolar solvents, is the verdict that all the ones that are sold in stores are diluted and impure? I think I will end up paying the extra money and going for some lab reagent dichloromethane, unless anybody has found a product that evaporates clear.

Hey gang,You all seem so conversant in these bio-chem discussions. Is every poor soul, who worships/seeks the FLASH of this "Transcendent Other", destined to endure 2 years of univ. level chemistry? I mean, I remember a few years ago have a simple vision of buying a few Ball canning jars and some rye to husband a patch of those coy psilo-invaders and ended up $3k poorer standing in a white sterile suit in front of my own fuck'n home made 4' HEPA micron filter hood (thanks FP!).
???Please enlighten!
P.S. Oh yeh, (and most respectfully intended...) why is all the technical understanding not adding up to 1-3 simple isolation/extraction methods that have "joe-average-psychonaut"'s fridge overflowing with the illusive Orange-Goo?

Where did the Phd's that do all the ("above board") research at MAPS
(http://www.maps.org) get their stash? How would they generate the smokeable
flash stash?
